Guidelines for OCEA Meeting Educational Presentations

OCEA welcomes presentations by both members and guest speakers, but we have developed a specific set of guidelines to help prospective speakers understand our goals and expected content.

1) The primary purpose of both OCEA and its meetings is to further the education and development of its members and the profession of clinical engineering as a whole.

2) As a professional organization, we expect all presentations to be kept on a positive note and abstain from negative comments towards other companies, institutions, products, or individuals.

3) A speaker’s qualifications can come from a variety of fields including technical, educational, clinical, and sales/marketing.

4) Sales personnel are welcome as presenters, but it should be kept in mind that the primary goal of the presentation will be geared towards education and not sales promotion.  The bulk of the presentation should be geared to be purely educational in nature and not used to promote a vendor’s products or services.  However, a presenter will be permitted 10 minutes at the end of the presentation to present pertinent sales or marketing information to the group.

5) Any party interested in giving a presentation should contact a member of the Program Committee.  Prior to formal approval, the committee would like to see an outline or a synopsis of the planned presentation as well as an estimated length of the presentation.  The OCEA Program Committee is willing to work with a presenter in developing a program that will both interest and educate the OCEA members.

6) The use of handouts and audiovisual materials is strongly recommended.  A copy of the handouts or presentation for the OCEA educational archives is much appreciated.

7) In order to build our educational archive, the presentation may be videotaped by OCEA for use in future member education.

The Program Committee suggests that any party interested in giving a presentation at one of our regular membership meetings should download a copy of this reference guide.
